New PixInsight 1.9
Pleiades recently launched PixInsight version 1.9 with some great new features - see Juan's announcement in the forum here.
One of this new features is the Multi Scale Gradient correction which seems to be the perfect solution for my OSC images, which often show different gradients for R, G and B. My success with the background removal features in 2022 was very limited, so I gave the new tool chain a try.
The session consisted of two series of images for a mosaic, each consisting of 25 images @ 240 s.
Each series was processed with
- Weighted batch processing at best quality settings
- Spectrophotometric Color Calibration with standard parameters
- Spectrophotometric Flux Calibration with standard parameters
- Multiscale Gradient Correction with standard parameters
- Deconvolution with BlurXterminator
- Histogram Transformation
- Curves Transformation for contrast improvement
The curve transformation of the first image was transferred to the second image.
Mosaic was created with
- Mosaic by Coordinates
- Gradient Merge Mosaic
- Arcsinh Stretch for a final improvement
The images were taken in the very beginning of my astrophotography 'career' and were of a medium quality. The result with PixInsight is fantastic, the new gradient removal works great - no more Photoshop needed to achieve great looking results.
